Blinksale Featured in Designing The Obvious

Designing the Obvious, a new book by Robert Hoekman, Jr., proclaims itself as "a common sense approach to web application design." The book aims to help designers and developers build web-applications that are intuitive and easy-to-use.

Blinksale is featured prominently in the book, offering some insight into how we crafted and designed Blinksale to be the easiest way to send invoices online. The book also praises the design approaches from our Getting Real friends Basecamp and Backpack, as well as offering plenty of real world examples from applications like Gmail and Squidoo. It's always a pleasure to receive outside praise for the results of many sleepless nights designing Blinksale, and we're grateful Robert took notice of our work (a photo from the book).

Designing the Obvious seems to be the perfect companion for Steve Krug's Don't Make Me Think, and if you're designing web applications you should definitely pick up a copy.

CNET on Blinksale

Short and to the point, CNET blogger Rafe Needleman notes how Blinksale could be taking the pain out of invoicing. He even seems to think Blinksale borderlines on "cute." Dunno if that's a good thing or not, but on a similar note Dan Cederholm also mentioned that Blinksale sports "perhaps my new favorite color palette."

Regardless of it's ravishing good looks, Blinksale is about getting the job done. Or, more importantly, getting paid for the job done. The fact that you can look good while getting paid is really just a bonus.

Easily Pays for Itself

We found this juicy little tidbit from Nick Momrik's blog Nicked Up:

I’ve started to use Blinksale to handle invoicing for advertisements that I use across the blog network. It’s a pretty slick little system and for $12/month it’ll easily pay for itself. Instead of losing track of when each advertiser needs to renew their ad I’ll simply set up recurring invoices with Blinksale and not have to worry about it.

Nick is right on. This is exactly the sort of situation we envisioned when we updated Blinksale. And once the API is out there, the uses for Blinksale will only continue to multiply.

Top-Notch Interface

Designer Marko Dugonjic had some wonderful things to say about Blinksale:

"What makes [Blinksale] different is its’ simplicity and top-notch interface"
"[The] templates are quite refreshing, but professional, and as such they are perfect for small (web) design companies and freelancers."

Heavenly Invoicing

James Archer, founder of Pheonix-based Forty Media, has Blinksale blushing as he's described it as "heavenly invoicing" in an article written for The Return of Design.

"Blinksale works the way you want it to work. From the first invoice, I felt like I’d been using it for months."
"The interface is aesthetically pleasing, but more importantly, it’s immediately intuitive. Rather than burdening the site with functionality, they’ve kept it straightforward..."

Blinksale: Making Invoices Fun

We have an informal motto around here. Basically it states, "If it's not fun, don't do it." Colin Devroe seems to think that this is the case with Blinksale. He says:

Blinksale invoices are powerful for several very important reasons. The first being that creating invoices is not only easy, but fun. That’s powerful. If creating invoices is mundane and complex, not only will you not want to do it - but you will not do a good job.

Cutting the Clutter

While Virtual Stan was unavailable for comment, Jason Santa Maria did have some wonderful things to say about Blinksale:

"My life is already cluttered with enough things to manage it. Blinksale cuts things down to what’s important; keeping track of payments all in one place, and fitting in seamlessly with a brand."

Blinksale: It Just Works

Chuck Mallott, a Dallas-area design professional, had this to say on his weblog:

Blinksale is simple, really. But like the iPod, don't mistake simplicity for lack of features or ability. Its very obvious that a lot of thinking went into this product.
When Blinksale launches, I believe it will instantly become a "must have" tool in the belt of freelancers and small business owners everywhere.

Emphasis, Chuck's. If you're curious to hear more of Chuck's thoughts, they can be found here. Just a few more days and counting folks. We couldn't be more excited.

Get Yer Invoice On(line)

Khoi Vinh, a founder of NY-based design firm Behavior had this to say about Blinksale:

"I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek at its extremely well-designed interface, and picked up its basic principles in literally just a few minutes — five minutes from log-in to sending out my first test invoice. All told, it’s a beautiful piece of work."

Blinksale For Great Invoices

Mike Rundle of Business Logs has a great write-up with his thoughts on Blinksale. One of our favorite blurbs from the article is this:

"Blinksale is simple in the fact that it lets you do one important thing, brilliantly. You no longer have to generate clumsy invoices that look like garbage and then wrangle with email programs in order to send them out, Blinksale does it all for you. It keeps track of all invoices sent, received, and the ones you have to keep track of because they are continually not paid on time.
"To be honest, I really don't care about those features. What I care about is that I can now use CSS to format my invoices and use the images, colors, and typography that I would normally format in PDF. I can turn magic tricks with CSS, and now Blinksale lets me use my expertise to create amazing invoices with all the style of a normal webpage. And if you're not a CSS expert, there are tons of pre-designed templates you can use and still look like a invoice-styling genius."

Thanks Mike!
